Let the Qur’an Transform You

No speech is more impactful and transformative than the speech of The Most High ﷻ. Even the disbelievers of Quraysh feared its effects—prostrating in awe just from hearing the verses of Surah Al-Najm. Indeed, the revelation of Allah ﷻ shocks the heart like a defibrillator jolts a dying heart into life.

You might ask, “Is this just a slogan?” Well—let the results speak for themselves.

The linguistic eloquence, the timely rhetoric, the wise counsel, the universality of its law, and its deep compatibility with the human experience—all leave the observer in awe.

It was that same Qur’an from which a few verses of Surah Taha changed the likes of Umar ibn al-Khattab—a drunkard on the way to assassinate the Messenger ﷺ. The Prophetic curriculum and Qur’anic guidance turned him into a leader who struck fear in the hearts of oppressors—yet was humble enough to sleep peacefully under a tree.

A man who judged with the justice of Allah ﷻ during the day, and fed the poor on his patrols at night. A ruler who conquered Al-Quds as a victor—while sharing in the pains of the Ummah during times of famine.

Such is the transformative power of the Qur’an, which elevated the shepherds of Arabia to leaders of humanity in this life and the next.

Reciting, Memorizing, and Preserving

Reciting, memorizing, and preserving the Qur’an isn’t just about checking off a box, it’s about building a real, personal connection with it. When you recite, take your time. Give each letter its due, because every sound, every rule of Tajweed, adds to the beauty of the words and its meaning. It’s not about speed; it’s about respect and understanding.

And when it comes to memorization, don’t overwhelm yourself. A little goes a long way. Even if you hold onto just one verse at a time, but do it sincerely, it will stay with you and its benefit will never fade. The goal isn’t to rush through the pages, it’s to let the Qur’an settle in your heart, to make it a part of you.

But it’s not just for you. Preserving the Qur’an isn’t just a personal journey; it’s something we do for the whole Ummah. It’s our responsibility to keep it alive, not just in books, but in our hearts and actions. When we hold onto it, we’re protecting something bigger than ourselves, rather we are protecting the words of God, a source of guidance, light, and mercy for generations to come.

So, take your time, be sincere, and know that every small effort matters more than you realize.

Pondering and Understanding

I used to read the Qur’an, but for the longest time, it felt like I was just going through the motions. I knew it was supposed to be life-changing, but without understanding the meaning, it felt distant, like something powerful was right in front of me, but I couldn’t quite grasp it.

However, things began to change when I made the effort to understand what I was reading. Even without knowing Arabic, there are ways to bridge that gap, such as reading translations, picking up even a little Arabic vocabulary, and listening to tafsir. It all starts adding depth. And once you begin understanding, the Qur’an isn’t just words anymore; it becomes a conversation, a personal message that speaks to you.

Something else that made a huge difference was finding reciters whose voices brought the words to life. A powerful recitation coupled with an understanding of the verses can make you feel the meaning, even before you fully understand it.

That’s when the Qur’an starts sinking deeper, beyond the mind and straight into the heart.

Living the Qur’anic Narrative

What use are the intricate blueprints with no goal of constructing the building itself?

Such is the admonition of Allah ﷻ to us when He says –

“You are upon nothing until you establish the Torah, the Injeel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord.” [5:68]

Indeed, it is not surprising that even the Prophets before, like Yahya ﷺ, were commanded to hold on to the book with strength through practice!

True sincerity and love of Allah ﷻ necessitate that we obey Him and His Messenger ﷺ, without having any resistance in our hearts to show our complete submission to His will. Until we, as Muslims, go beyond the theoretical understanding of revelation and make it our mission to build our lives and institutions upon Tawheed and the complete Shari’ah, the victory of Allah ﷻ will hang suspended.

So let us practice what we preach, in line with the laws of justice and equity – to liberate humanity from its descent into moral corruption – just as the Prophet ﷺ and his companions achieved by living the Qur’anic narrative.

Becoming an Ambassador of the Qur’an

Have you ever heard of WWJD—”What Would Jesus Do?” This phrase reminds Christians to reflect on how Jesus would act in any situation and strive to follow his example. In the same way, Muslims are encouraged to seek guidance from the Qur’an and Sunnah (Prophetic traditions) in their daily lives.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was the ultimate ambassador of the Qur’an. He didn’t just preach its message—he lived it. His character, actions, and words were a direct reflection of its teachings, making him a “walking Qur’an.” His life was a blueprint for anyone who wishes to embody the values of Islam.

But being an ambassador of the Qur’an isn’t reserved for prophets. It’s a role we should all aspire to. Start by truly engaging with the Qur’an—read it, understand its meanings, and reflect on its lessons. Then, apply its wisdom in your daily life, whether in your relationships, work, or personal growth. Finally, share its message—not just with words but through your actions.

The next time you face a moral dilemma, pause and ask yourself: What does the Qur’an guide me to do? By doing so, you take a step closer to becoming a true representative of its teachings.
